Intelligence notes is the open-source analysis garden inside Asymmetric Measures. It maps actors, crises, systems, and methods from open sources only. It is a living reference, not a course platform and not a dump of non-public material.
Series pieces (OPEN SOURCE and others) distill from this garden and from tactics. The garden holds depth; the series holds the weekly product.
Methodology
Every entry follows the same OSINT cycle:
- Collection - primary and secondary open sources, including native-language official communications where relevant.
- Verification - claims checked against independent references.
- Cross-referencing - findings linked across actors, concepts, systems, and crises.
- Structured evaluation - evidence labeled (below).
- Synthesis - analyst register: declarative, evidence-first.
- Updates - living notes carry revision dates.
State-aligned sources are labeled as such and never treated as sole authority.
Epistemic labeling
Non-trivial claims carry one of:
- Fact - directly verifiable in a cited primary source.
- Assessment - inference from multiple pieces of evidence; basis stated.
- Gap - known unknown; what would resolve it.
Confidence when it matters: High (multiple independent primaries) · Medium (single primary or consistent secondaries) · Low (single secondary or contextual inference) · Unverified (in reporting, not yet validated).
Structure
Ten sections on the home page: Actors, Concepts, Weapons, Crises, History, Thinkers, Investigations, Guides, Repository, Library. Graph navigation is supported; search and section MOCs are the fast path.
What this is not
- Classified or non-public material
- Client or engagement reporting
- Platform series posts (those live under content)
- A substitute for legal advice on collection or privacy
